Lawmakers aren’t immune from making the same error in judgement that so many other people do when they get behind the wheel after drinking. Still, I’m not so sure providing babysitters and free rides is the answer. Although there may be some security and safety concerns with moving our Senators around in public transportation, when was the last time you heard of one being kidnapped, held for ransom or hurt?
I vote to let the Senators exercise the same good judgment that anyone else in their position should observe. Have a designated driver, call a taxi or put Uber or Lift on your cell phones. Then, if appropriate, turn the expense in for reimbursement.
