The Law Office of Denis White has dealt with the issue both pre and post sentencing in the representation of DUI offenders. Our past practice has been to contact Jesse Sainz to help us with the language barrier and federal bond issues. The new policy will be a welcome relief to the families of individuals arrested for less serious offenses. It may also increase the likelihood that some of those same people will reach out to the sheriff for assistance when needed. Sheriff Jones said that is his main focus.
My only question is whether the sheriff’s office will extend the policy at the back end of cases, where it is necessary for our DUI clients to contact the sheriff again to serve local jail time or to participate in any of their jail alternatives like work project and work, school or medical furlough. I’ll see if I can get an answer from Sheriff Jones and you can look for the response in a later blog post.
