Halloween is quickly approaching; many are more concerned with costumes and parties than their transportation. At Halloween parties, alcohol will generally be served. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in 2011, 38 percent of fatalities on Halloween night occurred in a crash involving a driver or a motorcyclist with a BAC of .08% or higher and 11% of those fatalities involved a pedestrian. In fact, over the five years from 2007-2011, 23 percent of pedestrian fatalities on Halloween night involved a drunk driver.
As you plan your celebration this year, make sure you plan beyond what your costume will be and which party you’re going to; plan for a safe ride home. Fortunately, a DUI is extremely easy to prevent. You have options. Here, in Sacramento you can call one of numerous taxi and car services. Uber is one of my favorite car services. Before you leave for your party put the app on your phone. You will simply open the application when you need a ride and press the request button. A car will arrive for you within minutes at your exact location.
Please make good decisions this Halloween. Don’t drive drunk or buzzed, because it’s much more expensive than finding an alternative way home.
